Punjab Boy Honoured by Army for Serving Jawans During Operation Sindoor
In the heat-soaked fields of Tara Wali village near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Ferozepur district, a young boy’s courage quietly stood out during Operation Sindoor — one of India’s largest recent military mobilisations. Ten-year-old Shravan Singh became a symbol of hope and devotion for the soldiers stationed in his village.
As soldiers prepared for battle in the dusty open fields, Shravan did not remain a mere observer. Despite his tender age, he took it upon himself to support the jawans with water, milk, lassi, and ice under the scorching sun. His daily runs to the troops brought comfort and morale boosts during tense times.
Shravan, son of local farmer Sona Singh, said, “I wasn’t scared. I want to be a soldier when I grow up. I used to bring water, lassi and ice for the soldiers. They loved me a lot.” His simple but heartfelt service left a deep impression on the army personnel.
Recognising his unwavering spirit, the Indian Army honoured Shravan in a special ceremony. Major General Ranjit Singh Manral, General Officer Commanding of the 7th Infantry Division, felicitated the boy and presented him with a memento and a special meal, topped with Shravan’s favourite treat — ice cream.
“They gave me food and ice cream. I’m very happy. I want to become a soldier and serve the country,” said an elated Shravan.
For his father Sona Singh, the pride in his son’s bond with the army was immense. “The Army was stationed on our fields. From the first day, Shravan began helping them — bringing milk, water, lassi and ice. He never missed a day. We stood by him. He stood by them,” he shared.
While Operation Sindoor is remembered for troop movements, tactical strikes, and strategic command, the story of Shravan Singh offers a touching human perspective. In a conflict zone, his brave and selfless actions remind us that patriotism comes in many forms — not just through arms, but through spirit and service.
Shravan’s dream of joining the Indian Army carries on with renewed inspiration. His small acts of kindness amidst conflict highlight the deep bond between civilians and soldiers defending the nation. In the annals of Operation Sindoor, Shravan Singh’s name will resonate as a beacon of hope and dedication from Punjab’s borderlands.
