On Friday, Sharad Pawar withdrew his designation as the Nationalist Congress Party chief.
“I can’t disrespect your feelings.” Because of your love, I am honouring the demand that I rescind my resignation and the resolution that senior NCP leaders passed.
“I withdraw my decision to resign as Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) national president,” the senior politician stated, hours after the NCP panel he appointed to select his successor rejected his resignation.
Pawar’s resignation announcement on Tuesday sent shockwaves across the party’s ranks.
After mounting pressure from party workers and leaders, Pawar indicated he would reconsider his decision in two to three days.
The NCP panel met earlier today, and the leaders rejected Pawar’s resignation. “Mr Pawar stated his desire to step down as party president.” We all unanimously reject the resignation.
“We have unanimously decided to request that he continue as party president,” NCP vice president Praful Patel stated at a press conference after the meeting.
The resignation episode occurred amid rumblings of a mutiny among the NCP cadre.
There have been rumours that certain NCP MLAs are planning to leave the party with Ajit Pawar to join the BJP.
Ajit Pawar recently stated that the NCP is prepared to run for chief minister anytime. However, the aspirant NCP leader has stated that he will not leave the party as long as he lives.
