Amongst the most controversial decisions of the Indian Premier League’s 13th season was Dinesh Karthik give up the captaincy of Kolkata Knight Riders halfway through the tournament.

 There were reports that Karthik might be requested to hand over the captaincy early in the tournament to England batsman Eoin Morgan and on October 16, those rumours eventually came true.

Karthik decided to let go of the captaincy situation, despite KKR winning four matches from out seven.

The decision has been spoken about for more than a month, and the pressure has risen even more with KKR struggling to qualify for the playoffs. 

In the nine games captained by Morgan, KKR only managed a victory in three of them. It leads to two-time winners, despite being one of the favourites to get through, losing out on a playoff spot.
