Arvind Kejriwal calls “unprecedented victory” at Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll
As the AAP candidate in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll leading by a large margin, national party convener Arvind Kejriwal claimed on Saturday that the “unprecedented victory” is due to the Bhagwant Mann government’s tremendous work in Punjab.
As per the latest trends on the Election Commission website, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Sushil Rinku leads his nearest challenger, Congress nominee Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, by more than 48,000 votes.
The victory in Jalandhar gives the ruling party in Punjab and Delhi its sole Lok Sabha member. The AAP has not had a representative in the Lower House of Parliament since it lost in the Sangrur by-polls last year.
Mann resigned as an MP after being elected to the Punjab Assembly, leaving the Sangrur parliamentary seat vacant. The AAP currently has 10 Rajya Sabha members.
Speaking to reporters at the AAP headquarters here about the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “It’s an unprecedented victory because of the Mann government’s good work.” Our party’s candidate is gaining a seat that has been a Congress stronghold for the past 50 years.”
The Jalandhar seat became vacant after Karamjit Kaur’s husband, Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, died in January.
“We do politics and seek votes for our work, and people have stamped the Bhagwant Mann government’s efforts with the words ‘we are with you’… “This is a significant message,” Kejriwal said.
Mann, who was there with Kejriwal, stated that the trend of the bypoll results represents the people’s “positive stamp” on the job done by his government in Punjab thus far.
“The election outcome has increased our responsibility as well as my confidence.” “We will work much harder for Punjab’s development,” he declared.
