The controversy stems from a sting operation by Tehelka, which alleged that former Ranji Trophy cricketer Rachit Bhatia claimed to have obtained CSK’s playing XI ahead of official announcements through a Delhi-based player in the squad. Posing to an undercover reporter as a bookmaker, Bhatia reportedly said he used this information to fix five IPL matches in 2025, passing team details to London-based bookmakers via Snapchat. He allegedly claimed to have received Rs 60 lakh per match, totaling around Rs 3 crore across the season.

Bhatia further claimed he could secure advance access to CSK’s 2026 playing XI if his contact was retained through the auction, though he later admitted an injury to the player disrupted those plans. The allegations also reference connections to the Delhi Premier League, though no CSK players have been officially named or confirmed as involved.
