Drinks for your hypothyroidism, on World Thyroid Day

Every year on May 25, World Thyroid Day is observed to increase awareness about this crucial gland’s function and assist individuals in recognising symptoms of thyroid problems.

The thyroid, a small butterfly-shaped gland at the front of your neck, is essential for metabolism, growth, heart rate regulation, and numerous organ functions. However, Its smooth action is disturbed when the glad becomes underactive (hypothyroidism) or overactive (hyperthyroidism).

Most cases of underactive disease are induced by the immune system attacking and damaging the thyroid gland or by damage induced by thyroid cancer therapies.

Thyroid hormone overproduction may be caused by illnesses such as Graves’ disease, thyroid nodules, or follicular thyroid carcinoma.

Thyroid function can be naturally enhanced by increasing thyroid hormone levels through physical activity, stress management, and a diet rich in iodine, selenium, and probiotics.

Here’s a list of a few drinks that can be beneficial for hypothyroidism:

1) Golden milk

Golden milk, aka turmeric milk, has several health benefits and also has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.

Almond milk or normal cow’s milk can be utilised to make the drink. Turmeric has the active ingredient curcumin, which is soaked best in the presence of piperine in black pepper.

2) Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is alkaline in nature. It aids in better sugar control as well as gives a feeling of fullness for a good period.

1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and water in it will help control the fast rise in blood sugar after the meals.

3) Buttermilk

Buttermilk is a source of probiotics that might help improve the gut microflora.

A healthy as well as strong gut will reduce inflammation which is a reason for hypothyroidism. Make sure you have fresh homemade buttermilk in your diet.

4) Green juice

Leafy greens are high in chlorophyll, which has anti-inflammatory qualities. You can use fresh spinach, amaranth, kale, coriander, mint, and other leaves to make juice with cucumber or only lemon juice.

5) Nut milk

Many a time, milk is a trigger for inflammation. So, changing regular milk with nut milk is a reasonable choice. Nut milk can be utilised in coffee or tea and counted in the breakfast bowl or your smoothies.
