Inauguration of Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge Sudarshan Setu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored a significant milestone today. As he inaugurated India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, the ‘Sudarshan Setu,’ in Gujarat’s Dwarka, alongside Gujarat’s first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot.

Sudarshan Setu: Connecting Okha and Beyt Dwarka:

The ‘Sudarshan Setu,’ constructed at the cost of ₹ 979 crores, spans 2.3 km and is a vital link between Okha and Beyt Dwarka island. 

Originally known as the ‘Signature Bridge,’ it has been renamed ‘Sudarshan Setu’ or Sudarshan Bridge, symbolizing connectivity and progress.

Unique Design and Symbolism:

Featuring a distinctive design, the four-lane bridge boasts a width of 27.20 meters with 2.50-meter-wide footpaths on each side. Notably, the footpaths are adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna, reflecting the region’s cultural heritage.

Spiritual Precedence: Inauguration Ritual:

Before the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi paid homage at the Dwarkadhish temple, a revered site dedicated to Lord Krishna. This spiritual gesture underscores the significance of cultural and religious heritage in the inauguration ceremony.

Expansion of Healthcare Infrastructure:

PM Modi unveiled Gujarat’s first AIIMS facility in Rajkot, marking a significant advancement in healthcare infrastructure. 

The Rajkot AIIMS and four other newly-built AIIMS facilities in different states. It represent a combined investment of ₹ 6,300 crore by the Centre.

Nationwide Impact: Virtual Inaugurations:

PM Modi virtually inaugurated four other AIIMS facilities in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal to expand access to specialized healthcare services. 

These super-specialty hospitals will cater to the healthcare needs of diverse communities nationwide, enhancing medical services and promoting public health.

The inauguration of the Sudarshan Setu Bridge and AIIMS facilities underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development and healthcare expansion. 

These initiatives aim to foster connectivity, improve access to essential services, and enhance the overall well-being of citizens.
