India’s Covid-19 tally rises to 1.45 Lakh; Rahul Gandhi criticizes the government.

After over two months of lockdown, the central government is being questioned on its implementation as the death toll due to Coronavirus rose to 4167.

On Tuesday, as per the Union Health Ministry’s data, India reported 6,535 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the nation’s Coronavirus tally to 145,380. This is the fourth consecutive day where the cases have soared past the 6000 mark. However, the number is down from the previous day total of over 6900 cases. The deaths climbed up to 4,167 due to the fatal virus. The recovery rate of India again increased, rising to 41.61%. A total of 60,940 patients have recovered from this disease and have been discharged.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday, questioned the government’s decision to implement over two months of lockdown. He criticized the central government’s action plan to combat Coronavirus. Gandhi stated that it is clear to everyone that the main purpose of the lockdown has failed, as the desired results have not been achieved. Addressing the media via a conference call, Rahul Gandhi pointed out that the Congress-ruled states have devised a strategy to fight against the circumstances, but they cannot function without the help of the central government. He suggested that Congress ruled states were fighting a lonely battle, thereby implying that the central government was not co-operating and helping those states.

In some positive news, Novavax will commence phase 1 of clinical tests for the coronavirus vaccine, the preliminary results of which are set to be revealed in July. The HRD ministry along with the National Council of Educational Research (NCERT) is working on framing guidelines for schools to function after the lockdown is lifted. Classes 9 to 12 will most probably return first as the ministry seeks older students to comply with the social distancing norms and the wearing of face masks.

Global cases have gone past 5.5 million mark and over 3,45,000 deaths have been reported.
