New 38,902 Coronavirus cases, India’s COVID-19 tally over 10.7 lakh, and the death toll at 26,816.

India on Sunday, reported yet another biggest single-day rise in the number of COVID-19 infections as fresh 38,902 cases were registered in the last 24 hours. The coronavirus tally in the country rose to over 10.7 lakh. With 543 new deaths, the country’s death toll is also rapidly increasing and now stands at 26,816. This is the third consecutive day when fresh infections count has been above the 35000-mark. The active cases in the nation rose to 373,379 and the total number of patients cured and discharged improved over 6.7 lakh as per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Maharashtra overtakes the UK:

In a staggering stat, Maharashtra, the worst-affected state, overtook The United Kingdom’s infections count as the Coronavirus cases in the state keep rapidly rising. The state’s tally breached the three-lakh-mark, on Sunday, out of which Mumbai has contributed 1 lakh cases. The UK’s infections increased to over 2.95 cases, but Maharashtra overtook it in a day after recording 8348 new cases in the last 24 hours. 

Uddhav Thackeray reiterates the prohibition of all religious, social, political gatherings:

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reiterated the ban or prohibition of all religious, social, political gatherings in the state because of the rising infections. Thackeray reminded the people of the state of taking precautions & refrain from large gatherings ahead of Bakri Eid and Ganesh festivals. Thackeray called for a replication of the Dharavi model at other places to control the coronavirus outbreak, while speaking in a virtual meet with collectors and municipal commissioners.

Global Coronavirus tally for a consecutive day saw the biggest single-day spike with 259,848 new infections. Over 14.3 million people have been infected with the virus and more than 602,000 have died.
