Mumbai’s new Versova Bridge; relief for Mumbaikars

The four-lane bridge, constructed at the cost of over ₹247 crores, would significantly reduce traffic jams across the Versova creek on the Mumbai-Surat aisle.

On Monday, the union minister of road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, stated that the recently completed 918-metre-long flat cantilever bridge on Versova creek in Mumbai would be available to the people from Monday.

There are two bridges on either flank of the Versova bridge around Ghodbunder on National Highway 8, out of which the one on the downstream side was in a miserable state. It was refurbished in 2013–2014 and was available to people with a 15-tonne maximum load restraint.

The National Highways Authority of India 2018 began making another four-lane Versova bridge because of the enormous traffic between Mumbai and Surat.

The project began on the Surat side of NH 8, with a total size of 2.25 km. The full size has a balanced cantilever bridge of 917.875 metres, and both approach 1.33 km. Rajan Vichare, the MP from Thane, even visited the bridge site a few days ago to check its progress.
