Chandigarh Court Notice to Salman Khan Over Jewellery Row

A Chandigarh court has issued pre-cognisance notices to actor Salman Khan, his sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri, and directors of the company behind the Being Human jewellery brand, following a cheating complaint filed by businessman Arun Gupta over an alleged ₹3 crore franchise dispute. Judicial Magistrate Dr Ambika Sharma passed the order, and the matter has been listed for further hearing on October 5, 2026, when the accused are expected to appear. The court has clarified that issuing notices does not amount to a finding of guilt.

Businessman Alleges Heavy Losses

Gupta claims he invested more than ₹1 crore to set up a Being Human jewellery showroom after being assured of strong operational and promotional backing. He alleges the supply chain broke down and the outlet eventually shut in February 2020, leading to significant business losses. Gupta further claims he was told Salman Khan would personally promote the store, but actor Aayush Sharma appeared at the launch instead. He has accused six associates of the company of misrepresenting the venture’s viability to induce his investment.

Company Denies Actor’s Direct Role

Style and Content Jewellery Pvt Ltd, which licenses the Being Human jewellery brand, has denied the allegations, saying Salman Khan was not a signatory to the 2018 franchise agreement with Gupta. The company maintains that the Salman Khan Foundation only licensed the brand name in 2015 and had no involvement in day-to-day operations, marketing, or sales — a defence it has raised in similar disputes before. The case highlights ongoing friction in celebrity-branded franchise deals, where public perception of an endorsement can differ from the actual legal terms of a licensing arrangement.
