Kolkata Knight Riders signed Shreyas Iyer in the IPL Auction 2022.

In the recently concluded IPL auctions, Kolkata Knight Riders signed Shreyas Iyer for a whopping Rs 12.25 crore and named him the team captain on Wednesday. Iyer was expected to be in high demand during the mega auction. Unsurprisingly, the 27-year-old youngster sparked a bidding war between the Delhi Capitals and the Knight Riders before the latter won the auction.

Iyer, who had missed the first two weeks of the IPL 2021 in India due to a shoulder injury. He was forced to step down as Delhi Capital’s captain, also the team’s captaincy was handed over to Rishabh Pant. Who guided the side for the entire season even after Iyer returned.

Shreyas Iyer will captain KKR in the IPL 2022.

Shreyas Iyer, who accepted the captaincy of KKR, said in a statement. I am extremely honored to have been allowed to lead such a prestigious team as KKR. The IPL as a tournament brings together the best players from various countries and cultures. And I am excited to lead this fantastic group of highly talented individuals.

Head Coach Brendon McCullum expressed his delight at the decision, saying. One of India’s brightest future leaders, Shreyas Iyer, will take the reins at KKR.”

I’ve admired Shreyas’ game and captaincy abilities from afar also now look forward to working closely with him to achieve the success and style of play that we desire at KKR.”
