There has been a lot of discussion about the playing XIs of both teams in the build-up to the much-anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) final between Virat Kohli’s India and Kane Williamson’s New Zealand.

Indeed, there has been more talk about the Indian camp due to the depth and potential difficulties for the management in selecting the best playing XI. Ian Bishop, a former West Indies pacer, is the latest to go onboard, having chosen two names for the bowling unit.

Several experts and cricketers have recently offered their thoughts on India’s bowling lineup. Bishop stated Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma would be in the fast-bowling team at a news conference hosted by Star Sports.

Bishop, 53, explained his decision by saying he was impressed by Siraj’s debut against Australia Down Under. He took 13 wickets in three matches and concluded the series as the team’s most successful bowler. Furthermore, Bishop believes Kohli and his teammates will benefit from Sharma’s experience.

“I hold Jasprit Bumrah in high regard. Shane (Bond) knows him more than I can ever know him. However, his skill set is quite good, and he has previously performed. Ishant Sharma has a lot of experience, having served in the army in England for a couple of years.

He was a member of the county cricket team there. Ishant Sharma, as the wise old man, is there for me. Obviously, (Mohammed) Siraj bowled brilliantly in Australia, but (Mohammed) Shami’s experience, seam position… “I’m going with him if he’s fit and in excellent rhythm,” Bishop insisted.

In response to the discussion over whether India should play two spinners, cricketer-turned-commentator Bishop stated that in India’s WTC final XI, he would choose two spinners over an extra pacer.

“I’m aiming for the two spinners as well. Both (Ravindra) Jadeja and (Ravichandran) Ashwin bat, and both are superb bowlers in good form. So those three seamers and those two spinners will make up the balance of my attack.”

The Rose Bowl in Southampton will host the grand finale, which will bring the two-year-long competition to a close. On June 18, the match is set to begin.
