  • The Sira seat fell vacant because of Covid-19 just after sitting JD(S), MLA B Satyanarayana died.
  • Bermo, which fell vacant after sitting Congress legislator Rajendra Prasad Singh died in May.

In addition to the second polling stage in the Bihar assembly elections, voting for 54 additional assembly seats in 10 states would also take place on Tuesday in the very first electoral examination for their post-Covid-19 political groups.

Though its ruling party in a state appears to win by-polls, in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka, a keen contest is expected. With the exception of Madhya Pradesh, there will be no effect on incumbent state governments as a result of by-polls. In the MP, to hold a strong majority in the 230-member chamber, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) needs to gain at minimum eight of the 28 assembly seats. To hit the figure of 115, Congress needs to win all seats. While 63 seats are vacant, for only 56 seats, the Election Commission has reported polls. The votes with all by-polls, along with those in Bihar, will be counted on November 10.

MADHYA PRADESH

In the past month, Madhya Pradesh has experienced hectic campaigning for by-polls to 28 assembly seats from both the ruling BJP, as well as Congress as the outcomes, could have an effect on the government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In the fray, there have been 355 contestants, including 22 females. In the 28 constituencies, more than 6 million voters are supposed to vote in 9,361 polling centers, 16 of which fall within the Gwalior-Chambal area, which also has a significant Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) base. By-polls will determine the fate of 12 state cabinet ministers who are not members of the assembly.

UTTAR PRADESH

In by-elections to seven assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, the scene is set for multi-cornered contests wherein candidates from the governing Bharatiya Janata Party, Bahujan Samaj, Samajwadi Party (SP) Party, and Congress are in the fray. There will be elections in the constituencies of Naugawan Sadat (Amroha), Bulandshahr, Ghatampur (Kanpur), Tundla (Firozabad), Bangarmau (Unnao), Deoria, and Malhani (Jaunpur).

GUJARAT

Bypolls are owed to eight assembly seats in Gujarat. Before the 2022 assembly elections, Congress will see substantial success in the by-polls as a sign of its revival and the BJP would like to consolidate its place in state politics by capturing all the seats. Today Kutch Abdasa, Zalawad Saurashtra, Surendranagar -limbdi and many other places people will vote for there rights.

KARNATAKA

All three major Karnataka parties, BJP, Janata Dal (Secular), and Congress, have made it a prestigious battle to win the Nagar seats of Sira and Raja Rajeshwari (RR). The Sira seat fell vacant because of Covid-19 just after sitting JD(S), MLA B Satyanarayana died. As when the MLA Munirathna resigned and crossed on from Congress to BJP to help to overthrow the JDS-Congress alliance in the state, the RR Nagar seat is witnessing bypolls. The constituencies are both governed by Vokkaliga. As the BJP enjoys a strong majority of 117 members, the result of the polls is unlikely to change the power balance.

JHARKHAND

Of the two Jharkhand by-polls, all attention is on Dumka, where the younger brother of Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s, Basant Soren is in a battle against Louis Marandi, the former minister, and BJP leader. Bermo, which fell vacant after sitting Congress legislator Rajendra Prasad Singh died in May, is the other constituency going to the polls. In both seats, the contest is two-cornered, with both the governing Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Congress locked in a direct fight only with BJP candidates.

CHHATTISGARH

In the Marwahi constituency of Chhattishgarh, Krishan Kumar Dhruv of Congress and Gambhir Singh of the BJP are pitted against each other for the first time in 20 years, with no one from the Jogi clan in the fray. Following the death of Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) MLA and former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi in May, the election was necessary; the nomination of his daughter-in-law Richa Jogi was rejected on technical grounds. The party extended its support to the BJP candidate, claiming that Ajit Jogi was humiliated by the ruling Congress.
