Read what wrestling referee Jagbir Singh says on WFI’s Brij Bhushan

Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief as well as BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has seen inappropriately treating female grapplers on multiple occasions, according to international wrestling referee Jagbir Singh.

Jagbir Singh talks about WFI Chief in an interview:

During an interview with India Today, Jagbir Singh made the claims, which come as the country’s top wrestlers, including Asian Games gold medalist Vinesh Phogat and Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, have been protesting Brij Bhushan and demanding his arrest for allegedly sexually harassing female grapplers. The WFI’s president has denied the charges.

Brij Bhushan engaged in inappropriate behaviour with a female wrestler during the Asian Championship Wrestling trials on March 25, 2022, in Lucknow, according to Jagbir Singh.

“A female wrestler was standing next to the WFI chief during the photo session.” However, the woman immediately expressed dissatisfaction, and everyone’s attention was drawn to her. “She freed herself, pushed away, mumbled, and moved away,” the referee said, according to the news station.

“When we looked at what was happening, we saw that Brij Bhushan had inappropriately placed his hands on the female wrestler,” he stated, adding that the wrestler immediately went to another area.

In his evidence to the Delhi Police, Jagbir Singh, an international wrestling referee since 2007, supported the wrestler’s charges.

Here’s what FIR says:

According to the FIR, Brij Bhushan forced her to hold her shoulder before she could break away and walk to the front row for the shot.

“I noticed him (Brij Bhushan) standing beside her. She pushed herself away, murmured, and moved away. She was standing next to the president when she suddenly moved to the front. I noticed how this female wrestler was behaving, and she appeared to be uncomfortable.

Uske saath kuchh galat hua (Something bad happened to her). I didn’t see him doing the action, but uske haath pair khoob chalte the idhar aa ja. Idhar khadi ho ja (He used to keep touching wrestlers, stating come here, come and stand here). From her (complainant’s) behaviour, it was obvious something was amiss that day (during the picture session),” Jagbir Singh as saying in an interview.
