Rishabh Pant can be the next Gilchrist, Sehwag, and Warner for India in ODIs and T20s. With his today’s inning vs South Africa in 2nd ODI 2022, he breaks all the records as a wicket keeper-batsman. The highest individual score by an Indian WK in SA (ODI) is now going to Pant.
He has all the potential, and he has shown that against all the top teams in their backyards. He has batted in Africa, England, and Australia superbly on their grounds in test cricket. Now the question is about his potential in white-ball cricket. If he opens for the team, Rishabh Pant can be the next Gilchrist and Sehwag in ODIs and T20s.
Pant opening for India in ODIs and T20s in WorldCup 2023:
Pant down the order can never be a good option. His record in T20 is poor because he cannot smash every ball while he enters the pitch. He is like Sehwag Gilchrist, and all give him the opening opportunity and allow him to play the natural game he will surely come out as a match-winner for India in ODIs and T20s.
In the recent series, Pant played well vs SA in the test. Today vs Proteas in the second ODI, he smashed bowlers all ground parts. Pant came after Kohli wicket scored freely vs African bowlers, showed his talent, and announced that the team had to give him a chance up the batting order. He is not handy down the order as a finisher. He is a smasher who should be open for India in white-ball cricket. His inning vs Africa in 2nd ODI 2022 will give him reasonable confidence too.
Someone has to feel the place of Sehwag in the team, and Pant can only take that place. He has the same swag and smashing style as Sehwag had vs pace attacks. India should definitely try him as an opener in the ODI world cup in 2023 India.
