The world will recall the year 2020 for the deaths of many famous figures, along with the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak that has killed over 1.8 million people worldwide, devastated economies, and brought to the fore the inadequacies of healthcare systems.
Although some people lost their fights against coronavirus, others died from natural causes. The list of people taken away this year is long, from Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Pranab Mukherjee. Here’s a couple of them:
Pranab Mukherjee: On August 31, Mukherjee, who operated as President of India between 2012 and 2017, passed away. At his home in Delhi, the senior politician suffered a fall and underwent surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain. Mukherjee was a senior Indian National Congress representative.
Diego Maradona: Maradona, an Argentine football legend who helped his country win the 1986 FIFA World Cup, passed away after sustaining a heart attack at 60 on November 25.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion of women’s rights, was also an Associate Justice of its United States Supreme Court from 1993 till her death during September 18, 2020. She passed away at the age of 87 because of complications with metastatic pancreatic cancer.
Irrfan Khan: The Indian actor, best known for his roles in The Namesake, Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, Haider, Paan Singh Tomar, and Piku, died after a long fight with neuroendocrine cancer on April 30.
Sean Connery: Scottish actor Sean Connery died at the age of 90, widely recognized for his character as James Bond. He worked as James Bond in every film between 1962 to 1983, from Dr No to You Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again.
Jon Huber: Legend of Wrestling Jon Huber, also popular as Luke Harper and Brodie Lee passed away on December 27 at 41. According to his wife, Amanda, he was also facing some lung problems.
Huber captured the Tag Team titles twice during his stint in WWE. He won the Intercontinental Championship as well, too. He won the AEW TNT Championship since joining AEW.
Mahashay Dharampal Gulati: Gulati was India’s masala king and the founder and the face of MDH, also known as MDH uncle & Dadaji.
He moved away at the age of 97 after a December 3 cardiac arrest. He was a rare success story for post-Partition refugees. He began in Delhi as a Rangwala (horse-cart puller) and developed MDH into a Rs 2,500-crore company, started in 1919 by his father, Chuni Lal Gulati, as a small store in Sialkot.
