Congress Leaders Detained in Ahmedabad; Here’s the Reason

Several Congress Leaders Detained in Ahmedabad, including Congress President Shaktisinh Gohil during a protest against the freezing of bank accounts.

Dozens of senior Congress leaders and workers, including Gujarat Congress President Shaktisinh Gohil, were detained by police in Ahmedabad during a protest against the freezing of bank accounts belonging to the Congress party and the Youth Congress by the Income Tax department.

Congress Leaders Detained for Protest:

The protest began at the Income Tax circle in Ahmedabad, where hundreds of Congress workers gathered with placards and slogans against the Modi government. They alleged that the government used the Income Tax department to muzzle opposition voices and suppress dissent.

Despite the gentle nature of the protest, it was met with a strong police presence, roadblocks, and forceful detention of protesters, including women. Tensions rose when Congress workers, including Gohil, resisted arrest, resulting in a minor altercation with law enforcement.

Gohil Condemns Account Freeze as Suppression of Democracy:

Before his detention, Shaktisinh Gohil emphasized the Congress party’s role as a responsible opposition, advocating for the people’s concerns regarding unemployment, inflation, and agrarian distress.

He condemned the account freeze as an attempt to silence dissent and undermine democracy, vowing the people would judge the government’s actions.

Congress Alleges Political Motivation Behind Account Freeze:

The Congress party denounced freezing its accounts as politically motivated and accused the government of abusing its authority to target political opponents.

Despite the crackdown, Congress leaders affirmed their commitment to legal recourse and continued protests against what they perceived as an assault on democratic principles.
