Coronavirus relief initiative: The “I for India” digital concert by celebs raised more than 52 crores.

The who’s who of Bollywood & Hollywood helped raise funds for Covid-19 relief. Some of the names include Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Will Smith, Sophie Turner & many others.

The “I for India” initiative was announced recently by director & producer Karan Johar & Zoya Akhtar. The aim of the digital concert was to raise funds for the frontline workers who are fighting day & night to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country. Facebook collaborated with some of the biggest names from both the Hindi film industry as well as from the west to help raise funds for Covid-19 warriors.

Many big names from Bollywood took part in the digital fundraising concert “I for India” which included Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Ayushmann Khurrana, Arjun Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, among others. While from the west, celebs joining in the concert were Will Smith, Sophie Turner, Mick Jagger, Jack Black, Mindy Kaling, & many others.

The fundraiser concert already raised more than 52 crores & to appreciate fans globally to raise this

colossal amount, Karan Johar also took to Twitter to thank all those who donated & also wrote, “#IForIndia started out as a concert. But it can be a movement. Let’s continue to build a safe, healthy & strong India. I For India. Please donate.” 

On Monday, Johar even shared an image on Twitter which showed that the concert on Facebook had become the world’s biggest live fundraiser raising online 4.3 crores & still counting. Corporate donations & funds from philanthropists also poured in which amounted to 47.77 crores & still counting. The proceeds of the live concert will be provided to India COVID Response Fund, to support the frontline workers & on-ground relief. The fund is managed by GiveIndia.

Filmmakers, sports personalities & the music industry too showed their support in this live concert by participating & raising funds. Some of the names include Vishal Bhardwaj & Farah Khan; Sania Mirza, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli; AR Rahman, Gulzar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Javed Akhtar, Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Badshah, Bryan Adams, Jay Sean, Jonas Brothers from the music fraternity, also took part.
