IHC Orders Transfer of Imran Khan to Adiala Jail

According to news agency Reuters, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a directive to transfer Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Attock district jail to Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail.

This decision followed a series of events in which Imran Khan was initially expected to be received by the Adiala Jail Superintendent but was, instead, taken to Attock jail.

Subsequently, the former Prime Minister filed a petition seeking relocation from Attock jail to a more favorable facility in Adiala jail.

IHC Justice Farooq’s Verdict:

During the proceedings, IHC Justice Farooq reserved the verdict on Imran Khan’s transfer application, mentioning that he would “issue an appropriate order”. However, the judge emphatically stated during the hearing, “Shift the PTI chairman to Adiala jail.”

Imran Khan Lawyer Responds:

Imran Khan’s legal representative expressed their satisfaction with the outcome, stating that they had “finally been granted justice from the IHC to the extent of transfer of Khan sahib from the Attock jail to Adiala jail.”

While characterizing it as a “small measure of justice,” they appreciated Justice Farooq. Simultaneously, they voiced their dissatisfaction with the court’s decision to adjourn the hearing on a plea seeking an open hearing of Imran Khan’s bail plea in the cipher case.

The Cipher Controversy:

The cipher case in question revolves around a letter brandished by Imran Khan on March 27, 2022, just days before his ouster in April 2022.

Imran Khan asserted that the letter was a cipher from a foreign nation and claimed to be reading its contents, which included the statement, “All will be forgiven for Pakistan if Imran is removed from power.”

In light of the Islamabad High Court’s order, Imran Khan’s transfer to Adiala jail represents a significant development in his legal proceedings, with potential implications for the ongoing cipher case.
