Rahul Gandhi to start no-confidence motion debate from today

Rahul Gandhi from Congress was reinstated as a Lok Sabha MP on Monday, 3 days after the Supreme Court cancelled his criminal defamation conviction in the Modi surname case.

According to sources, Gandhi will begin the no-confidence debate against the Narendra Modi government in the Lower House of Parliament on Tuesday.

Other speakers along with Rahul Gandhi:

According to the sources, other speakers from the Congress will include Rahul Gandhi’s party colleagues, Gaurav Gogoi and Manish Tewari.

Gandhi delivered his final speech in the Lok Sabha on February 7, 2023, during the debate on the President’s speech.

The Wayanad MP, an elitist rival of Modi and his major adversary in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, was removed from Parliament after being convicted by a Gujarat magistrate’s court in March.

On Friday, the Supreme Court stayed his conviction, which means it is on hold while the court considers Gandhi’s appeal in depth before making a final verdict.

Gandhi was sentenced to two years in prison, but the court suspended his sentence in April. After the Gujarat high court affirmed his conviction, he filed an appeal with the Supreme Court last month.

The debate of no-confidence motion:

The debate on the no-confidence motion will start in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. According to sources, the discussion has been scheduled for 12 hours.

“A time of approximately 6 hours and 41 minutes has been set for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes has been set for the Congress party.”

While the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), Shivsena, Janata Dal-United (JDU), Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) have been given a total of 2 hours, which are divided according to the number of party members in the house,”

At the same time, other small parties and independent MPs have been given a time limit of 1 hour and 10 minutes.
