Tesla, an American multinational electric car manufacturer, has been in talks with the Indian government for several years to expand its operations there.
It has now been claimed that some senior executives from Elon Musk’s company, including top management and supply chain personnel, are slated to visit India tomorrow.
The main goal of the visit to India is to meet with federal government officials and seek chances to establish their business model in the country.
According to reports, key executives from the Austin-based corporation are slated to meet with Prime Minister Narendra and top government officials.
They will discuss local components sourcing for their next Tesla models in the country.
This trip is expected to yield positive results for the company, which has been working hard for a long time to enter the Indian market.
Meanwhile, the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, has frequently criticised India’s high import levies and electric vehicle rules.
According to him, the country has the highest import duties on EVs compared to other countries. He also encouraged the government to reduce the import fee from 60% to 40% for electric vehicles costing $40,000 or less.
However, the government requested that the company construct its cars in the United States rather than import them from China.
If everything goes well among Tesla and the Indian government, the Elon Musk-owned company will almost certainly introduce its feature-packed Tesla Model 3 in the country first.
It is expected to be launched at a starting price of Rs.60 Lakh (Ex-showroom).
The Model 3 could be available in three trim levels: Standard Plus, Long Range, and Performance.
The Long Range and Performance variants include dual-motor all-wheel drive systems with a maximum range of 568 km and 507 km, respectively.
Conversely, the former has a rear-wheel drivetrain and a maximum range of 423 km. According to the manufacturer, the EV can accelerate from 0 to 97 kilometres per hour in 3.1 seconds.
