Peddi Removes Controversial Scenes, Adds 6 Minutes New Footage

Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor’s film Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, has undergone significant changes just two weeks after its theatrical release. Nearly six minutes of new footage have been added to the film following director Buchi Babu’s confirmation that objectionable scenes were removed to address audience concerns.

What Changed in the Film

The revised version removes controversial moments depicting Janhvi’s character Achiyyamma being objectified and hypersexualized, including a non-consensual kiss scene. In their place, filmmakers added emotional depth through new sequences featuring additional scenes of Achiyyamma’s character. A pelli choopulu (matchmaking) scene and market sequences have also been incorporated, with fans noting these additions strengthen the romantic and emotional narrative. The new Rao Ramesh scenes provide better justification for character motivations and enhance the overall emotional flow of the story.

Audience Response and Box Office Impact

Viewer reactions have been mixed. While many praised the added pelli choopulu scenes as hilarious and emotionally effective, with the market sequence adding “a nice layer to the romance,” some critics remained unconvinced about the central love story’s foundation. Others questioned the timing, arguing these changes should have occurred during the film’s opening weekend rather than the third week.

Despite the changes, Peddi maintains strong box office performance. According to trade reports, the film has collected ₹226 crore net domestically and ₹320.20 crore worldwide in its first 14 days, with the film’s team claiming collections exceed ₹400 crore globally. However, the delayed revision risks reduced screen counts as new releases compete for theatre space in coming weeks.
