Actor Vidyut Jammwal is winning widespread praise online after sitting in meditation for 16 minutes at the Street Fighter trailer launch event. Videos show him staying remarkably still, without blinking or breathing visibly, even as tears rolled down his face.

Jammwal also had a message for the younger generation. “You need to stop. Stay still. It will take you places,” he said, urging people to pause and take a breather from their hectic routines.

Why stillness is harder than it looks

His words land at a time when modern life rewards speed and constant availability. Psychotherapist and relationship breakthrough coach Delnna Rrajesh points out that even small gaps in the day, such as a lift ride, a traffic signal or a waiting room, are now quickly filled by screens.

Sitting still sounds easy until you try it, she explained. Within minutes the body starts asking for movement, whether it is shifting a leg, scratching an itch or reaching for the phone. The mind joins in with boredom and doubts about the point of it all. In her view, stillness makes restlessness visible, showing how constantly we are pulled by sensation, thought and impulse.

Meditation and stillness are not the same

Rrajesh stressed that meditation and stillness are not necessarily the same practice, and each can teach something different. Meditation is a vast field, she noted, and many traditions include open-eyed, walking and movement-based practices. It would be inaccurate to define it simply as sitting with eyes closed.

Jammwal’s viral moment has revived the conversation about how rarely people give themselves a pause, and what they might learn if they did.
