Ajith Kumar’s Mother Mohini Mani Passes Away at 89 in Chennai

Tamil actor Ajith Kumar’s mother, Mohini Mani, passed away on Friday, May 30, in Chennai. She was 89 years old. The cause of death was age-related health complications, and she had been in declining health for several years. She spent her final days surrounded by close family. The news was first confirmed by Cinema Vikatan on Saturday morning, with other Tamil media outlets soon following.

Ajith Returns From Dubai

Ajith Kumar had been in Dubai fulfilling prior professional commitments when news of his mother’s deteriorating condition reached him. He immediately returned to Chennai and proceeded to his residence in the Injambakkam-Palavakkam area on the city’s outskirts to be with his family. Though neither Ajith nor his team released an official statement, tributes from colleagues and well-wishers began pouring in online shortly after the news broke.

CM Vijay and Trisha Offer Condolences

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and actress Trisha Krishnan visited Ajith Kumar’s Chennai home on Saturday evening to pay their respects. Vijay arrived with a flower garland, while Trisha was dressed in a simple black salwar suit. Ajith was seen personally greeting the visitors before they entered the residence. CM Vijay also shared a heartfelt condolence message on social media, expressing deep sorrow and offering prayers for Mohini Mani’s soul. Veteran actor Kamal Haasan was among the first from the Tamil film fraternity to publicly pay tribute, posting his condolences on X.

Mohini Mani’s passing comes three years after her husband, P. Subramaniam — popularly known as PS Mani — died in March 2023 at the age of 85. The couple are survived by their three sons: Anup Kumar, Ajith Kumar, and Anil Kumar.
