Indeed Announces Layoffs to Simplify Organization

Indeed, a prominent careers site has announced layoffs affecting approximately 1,000 employees, which accounts for 8% of its workforce. The decision aims to streamline the organization’s structure. 

CEO Chris Hyams has taken responsibility for these job cuts, attributing them to the company’s ongoing efforts to adapt following last year’s global hiring slowdown, which resulted in declining sales.

Indeed Distribution of Layoffs:

Chris Hyams stated that, unlike the previous year’s across-the-board reduction of 2,200 workers, the current layoffs would be more concentrated in the United States. Specifically, the restructuring will most affect the research and development and go-to-market teams.

The primary goal of the layoffs is to reduce excessive organizational layers within the company. Hyams emphasized the necessity of meaningful change to propel the company forward: “We have been working to simplify every aspect of our business, but without meaningful change, we can’t get where we need to go.”

Indeed Focus on Equity:

In response to the layoffs, Indeed is committed to ensuring that underrepresented groups are not disproportionately affected. 

The company plans to collaborate with its human resources, legal, diversity, equity, and inclusion teams to mitigate any potential disparities resulting from the job cuts.

Hyams announced that an updated organizational chart reflecting the company’s revised structure and strategic direction will be shared with employees at a later date.
