North Korea tested an underwater drone that can bring “radioactive tsunami”

North Korea says it has experimented with an underwater drone that can release a “radioactive tsunami.”

The “secret weapon” was unleashed in the waters of the South Hamgyong area on Tuesday, state news media KCNA says.

The report states it moved for over 59 hours at a depth of 80 to 150 metres and was fired off its east coast. But critics urge warning on North Korea’s claim about the powers of the new weapon.

Pressures on the Korean peninsula have increased, as the US and South Korea concluded the most comprehensive joint field activities in five years on Thursday. On Friday, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol said he would “make sure North Korea pays the price for its impetuous provocations.”

Dubbed “Haeil”, Korean for tsunami, the North’s drone is created to strike enemy vessels and ports by putting off a “super-scale” radioactive wave, KCNA says.

“This underwater nuclear attack weapon can be deployed at any shore and port or towed by a surface vessel for operation,” it continues.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un led this activity and said it should serve as a sign for the US and South Korea to “realise the DPRK’s eternal nuclear war deterrence power being strengthened up at a greater rate”, AFP reported.
