Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan’s recent hundred gave India a glimpse of something unusual

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 122 against Australia U19 showed more than power: it showed control, endurance, and acceleration.

Many new batters proclaim themselves through spectacle. The bat comes down hard, the ball vanishes recurrently, and their gifts are immediately obvious. Yashasvi Jaiswal appears to be taking a more intriguing route. That was the skimpiest aspect of his 122 against Australia Under-19 in Rajkot on Monday. Chauhan reached 53 off 53 balls before finishing with 122 off 100, meaning his final 69 runs came off just 47 deliveries. The innings was not played at a single tempo; it was deliberately reshaped as the contest changed.

India were already well placed when Chauhan arrived, but the situation still required judgment more than desperation. He and VK Vineeth built a substantial partnership without becoming hostage to urgency, allowing the innings to acquire both stability and depth before the acceleration began. The moment that foundation hardened, Chauhan changed gears without letting his batting misplace its edifice.

That is where the Kohli-Gill assessment becomes evocative — not as a prophecy of greatness, but as a portrayal of method. Chauhan is beginning to resemble a batter interested not only in producing memorable innings, but in understanding them well enough to govern what they ultimately become.
