After Manipur Grocery store incident BSF Jawan suspended

A BSF Jawan harassed women in Manipur, caught on camera later suspended.

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has been suspended after being caught on camera sexually assaulting a woman in ethnic volatile Manipur, according to news agency PTI.

The incident allegedly occurred last week at a supermarket store in Imphal West.

The video of the alleged molestation, which was widely disseminated online, shows head constable Satish Prasad, dressed in uniform and carrying an INSAS gun, groping the woman.

BSF Jawan harassed women:

Prasad has been charged with a crime. According to a BSF officer, the incident was reported on July 20. Prasad was suspended the same day after the paramilitary force received a complaint.

An internal investigation has been launched against the head constable of the force’s number 100 battalion, which was sent to the strife-torn northeastern state as an ad hoc security unit.

According to PTI, the BSF has zero tolerance for such crimes and will conduct a fair probe into this event.

The new incidence of violence against a lady comes just days after a video of a gang of men sexually abusing and disrobing two women in Manipur went viral. So far, seven persons have been captured in connection with the probe.

Another harassment case from Manipur:

According to details of a first information report (FIR) obtained by our source, two more women were allegedly raped and murdered by a mob in the state capital of Imphal on May 4. According to the FIRs, both instances occurred on the same day, within an hour, and the victims (Kuki) and perpetrators (Meitei) were from the same group.

Since May 3, riots between Meiteis and Kukis in Manipur erupted during a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ to oppose the former community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status; over 160 people have been murdered and numerous injured.

On Tuesday, the Manipur government partially eased the internet ban by allowing broadband service conditionally while maintaining the restriction on mobile internet.
