From Doodles to Digital – How Harmeet Kaur Saini Turned Her Animation Dreams into Reality

The journey of Harmeet Kaur Saini stands testimony to what dreams can manifest when passion meets persistence.

Like most 90s kids, Harmeet Kaur Saini was hooked onto cartoons growing up in Mumbai. But for her it was more than just entertainment – she felt a deep connection with the world of animation. She still remembers spending hours trying to draw her favourite cartoon characters, fascinated with how they seemingly came to life on screen. As she puts it, “What began as a childhood love affair with cartoons slowly evolved into a serious commitment to learn the art of animation.” The seeds were planted early for her eventual career specialization.

Once Harmeet realized animation was her true calling, she put on her grinding hat. She completed an intensive 800+ hour certification course in software like Photoshop, Premiere, Maya, VFX, Sound Forge, Combustion etc. from Arena Animation. Not satisfied yet, she went on to snag multiple certificates for her digital design and animation projects. But Harmeet knew software skills alone wouldn’t cut it – she needed to understand the whole creative process. So she backed up her animation credentials with a university degree in Mass Media and Communication from the University of Mumbai.

Her college days gave invaluable practical exposure as she was involved in organizing on-campus events, scoring interviews with celebrities like Ayushmann Khurrana, which won her accolades. These experiences expanded her skill-set way beyond just animation. Dabbling in entertainment and advertising helped her recognize animation’s huge potential for education via gaming. Fresh out of college, Harmeet worked with major Indian YouTube stars like Angry Prash and Be YouNick and also collaborated with international pop artist Soulja Boy (3M+ subs). Her animated creations have collectively reached millions of viewers across India and overseas.

To further boost her animation and edtech goals, she pursued a Masters in Design and Technologies for Learning at the University of Michigan. There she instructed undergrads, built educational websites, created digital content and led projects for her department. Through these diverse experiences, Harmeet kept expanding her skill-set. Today, Harmeet proudly works with the best of both worlds – Mumbai’s entertainment industry as well as LA’s global hype circus having worked with grammy-nominated artists like Tyla Yaweh. Such opportunities continue coming as rewards of her consistent design talent and quality commitment. Her portfolio spans national and international brands from both cities.

“I also plan to launch my own creative startup soon while building connections with industry bigwigs from here,” shares Harmeet. Through sheer graft and developing a broad media design skill-set, she has established herself as a leading animation specialist in Mumbai and LA.
