Pentagon alerts the military police to leave for Minneapolis.

After protests stooped to looting and arson in the city, President Donald Trump asks Defense Secretary Mark Esper for military options to bring back peace and harmony in Minneapolis.

After the police killing of George Floyd sparked the widespread protests across the country, the Pentagon ordered the Army to ready several active-duty U.S. military police units to deploy in Minneapolis. According to close military sources, soldiers from Fort Drum in New York and Fort Bragg in North Carolina have been ordered to be prepared to deploy within four hours, if called. Other units of soldiers from Fort Riley in Kansas and Fort Carson in Colorado have been alerted to be ready in 24 hours.

The orders have been verbal and President Trump wants to curb the widespread protests:

On Friday, verbal orders were placed for soldiers to be ready after President Donald Trump asked Mark Esper, Defense Secretary, for military options to help curb the unrest in Minneapolis as the protests have stooped to looting and to arson. An official has said, “The President made the request to deploy the military on a phone call from the Oval office on Thursday night, when the White House asks for options, someone opens the drawer and pulls them out so to speak.” It is reported that under the Insurrection Act of 1807, the military units will be deployed. This act was last used in 1992, after the Rodney King trial, during the riots in Los Angeles.

This week earlier, a video emerged showing a police officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck, George Floyd succumbed to his injuries and the officer was charged with a third-degree murder and was arrested. Seeking injustice and discrimination, protests broke out in the city of Minneapolis and have created a nation-wide unrest.
