Safety Measures for the Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor

The Mumbai—Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor, a groundbreaking infrastructure project, will traverse coastal regions in the western part of India. However, strong winds in certain areas pose potential challenges to train operations on the viaduct.

Comprehensive measures have been implemented to address this problem and ensure the safety of passengers and the efficient operation of the bullet train.

Identifying Vulnerable Locations:

Fourteen strategic locations, nine in Gujarat and five in Maharashtra, have been pinpointed for installing specialized Anemometers along the viaduct.

These devices are strategically positioned to monitor wind speed variations, particularly focusing on river bridges and areas susceptible to sudden gusts.

Introduction of Anemometers for Bullet Train:

Anemometers are integral components of the Disaster Prevention System, meticulously designed to provide real-time wind speed data crucial for operational decision-making.

These devices can measure wind speeds within the 0-252 Kmph range and cover a full 360-degree spectrum, offering comprehensive insights into atmospheric conditions along the corridor.

Implementation of Wind Speed Adjustments for Bullet Train:

In response to wind speeds ranging from 72 Kmph to 130 Kmph, proactive measures will be undertaken to adjust train speeds accordingly.

This adaptive approach maintains optimal safety standards while allowing efficient travel along the corridor.

Centralized Monitoring through the Operation Control Centre (OCC):

The Operation Control Centre (OCC) serves as the nerve center overseeing the comprehensive monitoring of wind speeds via the Anemometers installed at strategic locations.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and manned by experienced personnel, the OCC ensures swift responses to fluctuating wind conditions, enhancing bullet train operations’ overall safety and reliability.
