Tripura Police Rescue Kidnapped 16-Year-Old Girl from Gujarat

Tripura Police recently rescued a 16-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped last year from the northeastern state’s Kailashahar area. An officer said the girl was rescued from Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Monday.

Arrest of the Accused by Tripura Police:

The accused, who allegedly kidnapped the girl, was also arrested and produced before a local court. Meanwhile, the girl was handed over to her family.

The police launched an investigation to find the girl based on a specific complaint from her father. For this purpose, they deployed a scientific method along with the use of cyber technology.

Successful Rescue Mission:

Jayanta Karmakar, the Ahmedabad Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Kailashahar, told PTI that the victim’s presence was spotted somewhere in the city. Accordingly, the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, Sub Inspector Pompi Nath, was sent to Ahmedabad to rescue the girl.

With the help of Gujarat police, our officer rescued the girl from a locality in Ahmedabad. We were also able to arrest the man who kidnapped the girl from the same place. Both are taken to Kailashahar safely,” the SDPO said.

The girl was kidnapped by the man on December 18, 2023.

Addressing Social Issues:

Amid the rise in cases of minor girls’ abduction, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha last year said that the state ranked highest in the number of child marriages.

In 2019, an international study report found that Tripura occupied the second position in India in child marriage among girls aged 15-19, “at 21.6 percent, which is significantly higher than the national average.

The report, which was prepared based on the National Family Health Survey data, also found that over 80 percent of the child marriages in the state took place in rural areas of three districts.
